What is Virtual Vacations?
Virtual Vacations is a fun, travel-themed application that lets you hop around the world without all the hassle of time off requests, airport security checks, lost luggage, and weak currency. You'll be able to virtually travel to vibrant cities, tropical getaways, famous landmarks, and wondrous natural wonders of nature. From your destinations, you'll want to send unique souvenirs to all of your Facebook friends to share and commemorate your adventure. It's a non-stop vacation -- how can you say no to that?
What are Travel Points?
Travel Points are required to go from one Virtual Vacations destination to another. Travel to different destinations costs different amounts, depending on the distance between your current location and your desired destination. You'll start off with 5 Travel Points and will be able to accumulate more Points by sending and receiving souvenirs. You get 2 Travel Points for each souvenir sent and 1 Travel Point for each souvenir received.
What are Travel Levels?
Your Travel Level indicates how much you love to travel and share your experiences with your Facebook friends. You reach higher Travel Levels by sending a certain number of souvenirs. Each time you reach a new Level, a new set of destinations will become available for you to travel to.
We wanted to come up with catchy names for each Level, like "Globetrotter" and "Continental Drifter," but the number of Levels far exceeded our catchiness.
Where can I travel to?
You can travel to any destination that belongs to your current Travel Level or any lower Level. You must also have the required amount of Travel Points needed to travel to your desired destination.
How often can I travel?
As often as you like! As long as you have the necessary Travel Points to do so.
What is a Special Destination?
A Special Destination is a destination that becomes accessible to all travelers, regardless of their Travel Levels, on specified Special Destination Days. During the 24 hour period of the Special Destination Day, you will be able to travel to the Special Destination for a trip cost of 23 Travel Points. Once the day is finished, access will be closed and you will only be able to travel to the destination if it is featured in a future Special Destination Day. We will display notifications in the travel information box on the main page on the day before and the day of the Special Destination Day. Check back frequently, make sure you have enough Travel Points stored up, and enjoy the specialness of it all!
Why should I send souvenirs?
The "safe" answer: Because your friends are awesome, you want to share your Virtual Vacations adventures with them, and, hey, you live to give.
The "real" answer: You get 2 Travel Points for each souvenir you send to a friend, and 1 Travel Point for each souvenir you receive. Also, sending souvenirs is essential to reaching higher Travel Levels and unlocking new travel destinations.
You and your friends may also be tempted to complete different souvenir sets. It'll remind you of that very special bug collection you had years ago. It's okay, embrace it.
What souvenirs can I send?
You can send souvenirs that belong to your current Virtual Vacations destination. The souvenirs that are available for you to send can be found on the left side of the Travel Center page.
How often can I send souvenirs?
You can send up to 5 souvenirs to each friend per day. If only it was possible to be this generous in real life...
I thought of a great souvenir that you're missing. Is there a way to get it added to the application?
We definitely do not consider ourselves experts on all the fabulous locations in our application. So we encourage you to send us all your souvenir suggestions at support@destination23.com. Tell us the name of the souvenir and why it's special to the location and we'll see what we can do about getting it added to Virtual Vacations. If you also happen to have a copyright-free image of the souvenir that we can use, you will be our new best friend.
Can you tell me what places I'll be able to go to when I reach higher Levels?
We can't reveal our whole hand, because that just wouldn't be any fun. But you can preview the destinations available in the next Level by clicking the link in the Destinations box on the Travel Center page. If there is no link there, then you have either reached the highest Level or our programming sucks.
Is this, like, an educational thing?
While that was not an original intention of ours, if this application inspires folks to non-virtually travel around the globe and gives them an increased knowledge and appreciation of the cultures and tacky trinkets of the world around us... well, then we'll pat ourselves on the back and say, "Good job, Billy."
